"while not a paranormal, this story is trademark MaryJanice Davidson"
With her trademark humorous style, MaryJanice Davidson
brings to life another Ellora's Cave novel. Victor Lawrence is visiting the hospital to make a donation
when he runs into Ashley Lorentz. At first, he thinks she
is a mental patient, although a cute one, and is determined
to escort her back to her room. When he finds out she isn't
a patient, and is quirky but not insane, he is free to ask
her out. Although cautious, since he had been burned
before, Victor soon finds himself falling under Ashley's
spell. Ashley is a free spirit with a troubled past. Although she
is attracted to Victor, she is scared; of falling in love,
of getting hurt, and most of all of losing someone she
loves. When Victor gets a concussion, someone has to stay the
night with him, and Ashley steps in. In the grip of a
fever, Victor mistakes Ashley for his ex-wife and brings
her worst fears to life. Awakening in the hospital, Victor
has no memory of the events of the night and has to piece
things together. Once he does, he knows he screwed up and
strives to find a way to make it better, and to salvage
when he and Ashley had together. LOVE LIES is an emotionally gripping novel. I alternated
between laughing my rear off, crying my eyes out, griping
out the hero and rooting for the heroine. The secondary
cast adds to the tale, while still having their own secrets
and lives. While I did have a couple of problems with the event that
drives a wedge between the main characters, MaryJanice
Davidson's flair and style pulls the story through its
rough patches. Rated Hard R/erotic.
