"A Taste of the Texas Vampires"
MORE TALES OF THE TEXAS VAMPIRES is an anthology consisting
of two short stories, Sweet Punishment and
Spotlight. This
anthology can be read as either an introduction to
Whiteside's (excellent) storytelling skills or as an
expansion of the original edition of the HUNTER'S PREY
anthology that has since been replaced. Those who have
bought the new Anniversary Edition of Whiteside's anthology
should pass up this "quickie" anthology though, unless they
want duplicate stories. Sweet Punishment is the story of Catherine's affair
with
Don Rafael and Ethan Templeton. Sent by her brothers to
find the owner of a prime piece of land, she walks right
into Rafael's competent hands. Her life will be changed
forever. Spotlight is a more contemporary story involving Don
Rafael
and open mike night at a small-town nightclub. More of a
tale of an encounter than a real short story,
Spotlight
touches on the rules surrounding the vampires' encounters,
and takes our characters into the modern age. Both stories are written in first person, and neither has a
particularly happy ending. Though the women's lives are
changed for the better by the involvement of their
delicious vampire lovers, Whiteside's plans for each
vampire to have a novel-length erotic romance of his own
mean that none of our heroes find their soulmates in this
round. Sensuality Level: The title has been rated NC-17 by the
publisher. It includes oral sex, spanking, anal
exploration, a M/F/M threesome, and the obligatory vampire
blood-sucking (not graphic).
