Jared Dean is your everyday Emergency Room doctor. It's a quiet night, he's bored — and then a huge man blunders in, a gorgeous vision of a woman at his heels. Jared's enchanted and tries to get her name, but she disappears before he gets any information. Then the woman realizes that she has endangered the doctor, and that some real baddies are going to want him dead. She has no choice. She must become Dean's bodyguard, even though it puts her very, very close to man she finds dangerously attractive.

Only Davidson can make a cold, hurt female vigilante into a sympathetic romance heroine. THIEF OF HEARTS isn't as smooth or immediately funny as some of her other stories, but as you get into the story, you find yourself enjoying the tale and characters more and more. Jared is a chronic joker. (Luckily, he never blurs the line into wise-ass or sarcastic.) Kara believes herself to be unlovable and worthless. Jared's immediate affection for her, and his upfront acknowledgement of his feelings, gives her the courage to confront her fears and really, truly love him. The love scenes in THIEF are hot, but also very meaningful.

Those who are looking for Alpha heroes may be disappointed, but Jared is a hero in his own way. This contemporary romantic/erotic story is a fun, half-way dark look at love that both charms and excites. If you like strong heroines and sidekick males who shine at just the right moment, THIEF OF HEARTS is for you.

Summary

Never a dull night in the ER for Dr. Jared Dean, especially when he sees the woman of his fantasies beating the crap out of the largest man he has ever seen, only to have her escape before he even gets to ask her name. Kara realizes the gorgeous doc is now in danger of retribution from the Godfather wannabe, so she immediately assigns herself the arduous task of guarding the hard body of Dr. Dean until she can figure a way out of the mess. Jared is only too happy to accommodate the woman of his dreams, even if he doesn't take her seriously. Anything to have her close at hand... and in his bed.
