"Lies, sex, goons with guns, politics and ... telepathy?"
Treva Harte's WHY ME? is an amusing and thrilling -- in
more ways than one -- combination of politics and passion.
Cassie Majors has her own business. Cleaning houses for the
rich of Washington DC, she plays by her own rules: no
serious commitment, no stress, and no wild times. While
cleaning, she plays a little game with herself to pass the
time and to live vicariously through her clients. Envelopes
in the trash, notes left on the counter, all are fair game
to her harmless snooping. But one client has Cassie
perplexed. She can find nothing out about him, even with
more in-depth peeks into his life. His house is like a
museum, full of beautiful antiques and art, but not a hint
of a personality. That all changes one day, after she wakes
from a mysterious dream with the words "Must warn Art about
Lida" floating through her mind. She doesn't know an Art or
a Lida. Determined to push the troubling thoughts from her
mind, she decides to go to all of her clients houses early
and then head out to the beach. Unfortunately, her mystery
client, Wynn Harmon, has other plans for her. By the time
Cassie leaves his house, she doubts her sanity. Wynn is a
telepath and in trouble, and it seems only she can help.
As the story unfolds, Cassie finds that she isn't crazy,
just madly in lust with a telepath who is being chased by
goons with guns. With WHY ME?, Ms. Harte definitely spiced up the sex scenes
with the telepathic edge. Hot, vivid, intense. As the
characters regained their breath afterwards, I found myself
needing to do the same. I loved the interplay between the
characters, but I found myself overall frustrated. Whereas
the sex was good and the characters were intriguing, I
found myself wishing there was more background. The way the
telepathy was introduced was great, but then a cloud of
confusion formed. Some things that I felt should have been
explained, just weren't. I won't get into specifics, as it
would spoil the book for others, but I did find a few spots
where more information could have been provided. All in
all, WHY ME? is a great book; it just could have used a few
more pages. Ms. Harte thought out her characters, her
scenes and her set-up, I just wish there had been a bit
more to it.

more
than just an eccentric client. He's exotic and aloof and
incredibly sexy. Unfortunately it's also possible that his
voice is the one putting these disturbing thoughts in
Cassie's brain to begin with. Now the bad guys are chasing
them down with guns and Cassie must decide if she can
afford to trust Wynn with her mind--and her heart.
