REVIEW

"Exceptional story of love in WWII France, a testament to the power of love."

Gabrielle is a member of the French Resistance in Nazi- occupied France. Her husband Paul is also a member of the resistance but he is an American working undercover. When Paul is captured by the Gestapo, interrogated, tortured and left for dead, Gabrielle risks her life and that of her comrades to rescue him.

While nursing Paul back to health Gabrielle discovers that he has lost his memory. Not only does he not know they are married but he has also forgotten a very important part of his mission related to D-Day. In addition, there is also a traitor among the Resistance. Now their lives and everyone - - including thousands of American soldiers -- who depends on them is at risk. Can Gabrielle help Paul remember his mission?

Set in France during the last days of WW2, I found this to be an exciting romance because of its connection to an actual historical event -- D-Day. It's refreshing to read an historical romance set in a time period that's underrepresented in the romance genre.

Leonie Daniels used exceptional writing talents to develop a great story. The plot was well developed and the story was a testament to the power of love in difficult circumstances. The scenes and descriptions are detailed, the characters are multidimensional, and the dialogue is well written.

Most of the story focuses on the relationship between the lovers, and other characters are not introduced until halfway through the story but the pace was good. It is nothing less than a perfect love story with a hint of mystery, lots of intrigue, and real sacrifice.

Ms.Daniels is a gifted writer and storyteller who is the latest addition to my list of favorite authors. I looked for her other works and was disappointed to find that this was the first book by this talented author.

Bravo Ms. Daniels on your first book! I'm waiting for an encore.

Rated S-ensuous (love scenes are explicit) by the publisher.

Summary

Paul Finley slides into consciousness one misty dawn to discover he's lost his memory in a brutal beating administered by the Gestapo. As he recovers in hiding, deep in the French countryside, a beautiful, golden-haired woman, Gabrielle, tends to his every need—including his sexual ones.

An important secret is buried in Paul's mind and Gabrielle will do whatever it takes to restore his memory, from telling him about their life together to trying to remind his senses of their relationship in every possible way. But they're both in terrible danger.

There's a ruthless traitor in their midst and their precarious situation will erupt in destructive flames if Paul can't remember what he knows—and whom he truly trusts and loves. As the summer days march toward the Allied invasion of Europe, Paul and Gabrielle's nights are ablaze with passion as desire wars with duty in the dangerously hot embrace of destiny.
