REVIEW

"Erotic vampire tale leaves you wanting more"

When her recently married friend Rosa wants to fix her up with an actor, Ivy agrees to attend the performance of MacBeth in which he was starring to scope him out. She isn't interested in a blind date, but one look at gorgeous Jacob is enough to change her mind. She isn't looking for a soulmate either -- after all, she's a comparatively young vampire, and most of her kind don't find their mates until many years, even centuries, have passed. But Jacob changes her mind about that. How does she tell him what she is? And more important, how does Jacob convince her that, even though he's descended from a long line of vampire slayers, he no longer believes vampires are evil and that he has been cast out and marked for death by his family, all proud members of Those Who Serve Humanity, for refusing to kill a vampire innocent of any crimes? Cans he accept him, knowing that? And can the Vampire community protect him from his own flesh and blood?

This is slight story with very little plot, but the characters and their situations are interesting enough to overcome that. A bigger handicap is that there obviously is a lot of background involved in this story which is part of a series -- presumably, that wouldn't be a problem for someone who'd read others in the series but it was for me, coming to it without that knowledge. I wish more info had been provided, because the vampire community sounds fascinating and well-conceived. To be honest, I wish this had been a much longer tale. Ivy and Jacob are far too interesting and truly deserved a novel, not a novella -- this feels rushed and it's way too short to tie up the ends of their very complex situation in a neat bow. The love scenes are soft and sensual not hard-edged, but they are definitely steamy It did leave me wanting to read more by Kate Hill, especially about her vampires, so I can recommend it with confidence.

SENSUALITY RATING: Hot, monogomous sex
