REVIEW

"Full of slow simmering heat that explodes!"

Jake Lowell wasn't usually comfortable in a fancy outdoor restaurant drinking sissy drinks, but he was glad to meet his sister Rina here whenever he could, just so he could watch the woman who worked here. The sexy waitress with the auburn ponytail captivated him, and occupied his thoughts . . . and dreams. Although the pair had never spoken, Jake knew she felt the same attraction to him.

Jake, a New York City detective, was recuperating from a bullet wound received in an incident that killed his partner and best friend. He was also keeping a secret of the physical therapy he was involved in, hoping to restore his body's strength and nail Frank's killer before the department found out and put him back to work on other cases. While he recuperated, he sure was enjoying fantasizing about the waitress.

Brianne Nelson couldn't help being aware of the man who visited the café several times every week. He was the stuff of fantasy, with his jet-black hair and sexy grin. If it weren't for the undeniable fact that he was committed to the woman he met here several times a week, Brianne might be tempted to do more than fantasize about him.

Rina would have to be blind not to see the mutual attraction, and, being a loving sister, sets out to do her part to get the pair together. Neither Brianne nor Jake had any idea about the mischievous plot Rina was hatching, or how it would affect them both.

BODY HEAT is another in the Sexy City Nights series, and it lives up to its title. This is a story of simmering heat that builds slowly before it explodes. Jake and Brianne's relationship is inevitable, but Carly Phillips takes her time, letting the affair come to life gradually. When it does—stand back!

Ms. Phillips, an accomplished author, has crafted a delicious story with great settings, appealing characters, and breathtaking love scenes. The book reveals tantalizing glimpses of the city at night, showing shapes and suggestions instead of making the city the star of the story. Wisely, Ms. Phillips allows her main characters to stay at center stage, where they belong.

BODY HEAT, like all of Carly Phillips' books, is not to be missed.
