"Ancient evil continues to stalk the town of Pine Forest"

Micky Gunn returns to Pine Forest after fifteen years to inspect her inheritance from her Uncle Carl. Although she hadn't seen him in years, Micky inherited the bed and breakfast that Carl ran until he became too ill to continue. Maybe she can find the peace in Pine Forest that has eluded her. All her life, Micky has been seeing "shadow people", a legacy from the mother she never knew. Pine Forest was the one place she never saw the shadow people, but that has changed. Why is she seeing them here? And why now?

Detective Jared Thornton has come to Pine Forest to claim his aunt's body and to investigate her death. His aunt was another victim to the serial killer preying on the town. Although the local police aren't happy with his presence, Jared is determined to come up with some answers. He is drawn to the spunky Micky Gunn. Will Jared be distracted from the hunt for a killer by his hormones?

Micky doesn't trust cops after she had an abusive relationship with one a few years ago. No physical violence was involved, but words can hurt just as much as fists. Can Jared break through the walls Micky has built around her heart? Jared isn't looking for a long-term relationship, but is his heart listening? And what is this nonsense about vampires and shadow people? Jared doesn't buy into anything without a rational explanation. But what's happening in Pine Forest isn't so easily explained. When evil comes too close for comfort, the strength of their love may be the only thing to save Micky and Jared.

Second in Ms. Agnew's "Deep is the Night" series, NIGHT WATCH has the town of Pine Forest still being stalked by an ancient evil. Plus, the addition of an even older evil contributes to the mayhem the town is experiencing. The third in the series is due to be released later this year from Ellora's Cave. I, for one, cannot wait to see how this whole story wraps up! Fans of vampire stories will love this one.

Summary

Inheriting a haunted house in notorious Pine Forest is the last thing Micky Gunn wanted, but escaping the Shadow People who haunted her world drove her toward the town and new terrors. When the Shadow People follow her, things go bump in the night, and weird accidents occur, Micky decides it's time to stop running and to fight back.
