Balian of Memnon is the last dragon left alive. All the rest of his race were killed by the Wyvern people. Balian was told by the seer his prospective mate was now ready for him. He manages to gain access to her tower room. She is beautiful and everything he has ever wanted. He has to win her heart, and quickly.

The Princess of Wyvern, Kisah, is sleeping in her room when a visitor appears. She can't believe the audacity of the man to appear in her bedroom. She finally gets him to leave. Her father has decided it's time she wed. In order to find a husband for Kisah, he is holding a tournament and she will marry the victor. Kisah isn't happy about this. She knows women have no value in her world, other than for their dowries and their bodies. She wants to be wanted for herself, and not what she can bring a man.

The tournament begins. Who will win the Princess? Will it be Balian, or will it be Nkunda? Will Balian manage to win the Princess's heart so he can wed her in the ways of his people? Will the King of Wyvern realize Balian is a dragon and have him put to death?
