Desdemona Phatt, or Desy as she is called, is a private detective who lives with the elderly aunt who raised her after her parents died. She's an "average, run-of-the-mill girl, normal in every way. My only concerns were cottage cheese thighs, world peace, my aunt's health, or what to wear on my next date." She's in business with her best friend and she dates a nice guy. Then her aunt's friend Armand Bellamy visits from France and her world is turned upside down.

Armand is a high priest of Wicca and he has come to claim his high priestess, Desy, but she's unaware of her power. How does Armand tell her that her parents were witches who were killed by an evil witch who now wants to kill her--if he can find her? Her best chance of defense is to mate with him in order to combine their powers. And how does Armand convince the non-believer of her power? By seducing her in her dreams.

This is a brilliantly written story told in first person. There's not a lot of romance but there's plenty of the things that make a great book -- well-developed characters, excellent descriptions, and lively plot.

The heroine Desy is laugh-out-loud funny and Ms. Meadows has a fresh and humorous writing voice. I'm looking forward to future work from her and I highly recommend this book.

Summary
