"Can Narcissus find someone else to love besides himself?"
When Narcissus was a youth, he rejected the favors of a
nymph who was one of Aphrodite's favorites. He was cursed
to fall in love with the next person he saw --
unfortunately he looked in still water and fell in love
with himself. He wasted away by the pond staring at his
image in the water. He had never even learned to make love
to a real woman. Aphrodite made him into a statute and
put him in the park. For years, he has watched Violet Jones.
When he realized all the trouble she was going through he
asks Aphrodite to give him two days with Violet to learn
about love and to try to make her happy. Violet Jones feels the world is against her. Her cat got
run over, she lost her job, then her no-good boyfriend left
because she could no longer support him. When he left he
took some of the things she loved that they had bought
together. Since Violet was a little girl, she had told all
her problems to the statute that she called Nick. Here she
was again, sitting on a park bench right by Nick getting
ready to unload once more. When a handsome man in a short
garment sits down next to her, she can't understand why he
seems so familiar. Aphrodite has granted Narcissus' wish. Can he find the love
he wants? Will Violet be able to let him go when the two
days are up? What about Violet's old boyfriend -- will he
really just let her go? I haven't laughed so much just by reading a book. This was a
delightful twist on the old myth. I loved that Violet is
Narcissus' teacher in bedroom. Their attraction for each
other makes a great love story. If you like mythology or
the paranormal as well as a really great story, this is the
book for you.
