"Revenge is not an emotion of the heart."
Riona Chattan-Campbell is determined to kill Captain Ewan
MacKenzie to avenge her husband, whom Ewan had killed.
She'd waited long for this day, but women were good at
waiting and revenge was a dish best served cold. He heard her laughter first, the tinkling laugh of a
changeling. He'd lived with a price on his head for four
years now and earned the name "Gray Ghost". Some called
him hero, some monster, he knew he was neither. Just a man
trying to help his people as best he could. And the Faerie
laughter reminded him, just for a moment, of all he'd lost. When he meets her she is no changeling, just a woman. He
convinces himself he must watch her to discover where she
fits in. And as he does, he recognizes what she is there
for and has no desire to dissuade her from it. But as Riona
gets to know Ewan in every sense of the word, she discovers
a better man than she thought possible--a better person
than she is... If you read the related novel CARDBOARD HERO first, you've
already had a fine taste of this short story. I really
enjoyed this one, and even though very short, it somehow
was just long enough. Ewan and Riona are wonderful together
and though there isn't a lot of character building, I felt
I knew these characters well (of course part of that may be
from having met them in CARDBOARD HERO.) Sensuality depicted: Descriptive sex; oral sex; mild
bondage; crude language; monogamous sex.
