"Can she change the future by going back in time?"
Police detective Katlin McKinnen is rapidly burning out.
After a rapist from a rich and powerful family is acquitted
of the crime, she doesn't have the stomach for the job. When
her supervisor refuses her resignation, she takes a vacation
camping at a friend's place in the wilderness of Kansas.
After a strange meditation session, Katlin finds herself and
her dog, Black Bart, transported back in time 131 years to
the Wild West. Her "spirit guide," her former Sensei, tells
her she is to right a wrong in this era that is perpetuated
all the way into her time. Texas Ranger Mitchell Cameron has returned to Abilene,
Kansas to find out who is behind his father's murder. He
didn't expect to be ambushed on his way into town. And he
definitely didn't anticipate the fiery redhead who came to
his rescue. When she spins a tale of being from the future
and provides physical proof, Mitch almost doubts his sanity.
But there's no denying the physical evidence backing up her
story. Why does Katlin seem so familiar to Mitch? He feels
as if he's loved her before, even though he knows they've
never met. Katlin is amazed by the feelings Mitch draws out of her.
She's always been able to maintain her aloofness with men,
never feeling the "rightness" that she does with Mitch. But
she has a job to do and she intends to do it. With luck,
she'll soon learn the reason for her presence in the past.
Even so, questions remain. Will she suddenly be transported
back to the future when her work is done? What will happen
to Mitch? Will Katlin be leaving her heart behind with him? Reincarnation and destiny play a large role in this story.
Although the time-travel aspects are a little shaky, THE
BOND UNBROKEN is a gripping read. Mitch and Katlin know that
they are meant for each other and it shows. Domestic
violence is a central theme in both the future and the past.
Readers who balk at descriptions of violence towards women
should be aware that there are a few such scenes.
However, the perpetrator does pay in the end. Ms. Grayson
has penned an interesting debut novel that's sure to appeal
to fans of time travel romances and kick-butt (literally!)
heroines. Sensuality: Rated spicy by the publisher. Explicit sex,
attempted rape (not by the hero); sexually explicit scenes:
6.

SummaryIt was a travesty on what passed for a justice system and
Detective Sargent Katlin McKinnen finally had enough.
Despite the airtight case she had built for the
prosecution, a sadistic rapist would walk from the
courtroom a free man. Little did she suspect she was about
to face the most extraordinary undercover assignment of her
career. With only her German Shepherd Dog, Black Bart, and
a quirky Guardian Angel/Spirit Guide for backup, she would
travel 131 years back in time to find justice for a crime
committed in the year 2002. In doing so, she rediscovers a
love which has remained a bond unbroken throughout time.
