REVIEW

"Three humorous tales of love in the modern world"

There's No Such Thing As a Werewolf by MaryJanice Davidson

Blind werewolf physician Drake Dragon manages quite well in the human world. His enhanced wolf senses compensate for his blindness. Many people don't realize at first that he can't see. Drake is bowled over when he meets a mysterious younger woman whom he can actually see! She is the only person he's ever been able to see in his life. So he's not going to let her walk away.

Crescent Muhn has been living on the streets for far too long. She still has her optimism, even if she's a little bit jaded. She doesn't know why she's so attracted to Drake, but she has to do something first. She knows she can fly, if she can only go through with the attempt. Is she crazy? Or is there more to Crescent than meets the eye?

Although the shortest story in the anthology, this tale is by far the funniest and most enjoyable. There's even an appearance by some characters from a previous werewolf novella. Fans of Ms. Davidson's previous werewolf stories will definitely not want to miss this one. It has her usual sarcastic humor along with a hero to die for.

Sensuality: Rated S-sensuous by the publisher. Explicit sex; sexually explicit scenes: 2.

The Lust Bastion by Michele R. Bardsley

Kira Maxwell is tired of wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am sexual relationships. Nope, she's gonna have her first satisfying relationship in her life. With the Pharaoh 3000 -- the ultimate in vibrators. When she's at the adult store, however, the owner convinces her to take The Great Smenkare instead.

Smenkare turns out to be an Egyptian prince who has been cursed to be a sex slave for the past 3000 years. For the first time, Smenkare learns what it is to truly love. Will he have a chance at real life again? Or is his relationship with Kira doomed from the start?

Revenge against co-workers and a surprising plot twist at the end make this story a humorous tale. Ms. Bardsley has written a novella that is as touching as it is humorous. Her humor borders on the outrageous without actually crossing that boundary.

Sensuality: Rated S-sensuous by the publisher. Explicit sex, anal sex; sexually explicit scenes: 14.

Drenched with Affection by Chris Tanglen

After his wife leaves him because he'd taken her for granted, café owner Tim Neffster vows to be the best boyfriend or husband ever to the next woman in his life. It's hard to do, however, when the woman in question has made the same promise to herself. Will Tim be able to show his feelings without looking like an idiot? Of course not!

Horror writer Melody Talaway has been self-absorbed to the extreme as well. Everything in her life serves as inspiration for future plots. Too bad her live-in boyfriend didn't feel the same way. Melody vows to be more attentive to the next man in her life. She doesn't expect to meet him that very night at dinner. How can she show him that he means more to her than anyone ever has? Write him in as a character in her latest horror story?

Mr. Tanglen's tale is the most outrageous one in this anthology. Fans of slapstick humor and horror movies will be delighted by this entry. Although I found the humor over-the-top, Melody and Tim did strike me as a couple very much in love and perfect for each other. Now, if they can just stop competing to be the best and most romantic partner ever!

Sensuality: Rated S-sensuous by the publisher. Explicit sex; sexually explicit scenes: 4.

Summary

There's No Such Thing As A Werewolf By MaryJanice Davidson
He's a doctor. Blind from birth. Alone and lonely his entire life. Oh...one more thing: he's a werewolf. She's homeless. And too young by far. Worst of all, she's crazy: she thinks she can fly. And keeps leaping off buildings to prove it.

Is it lust? Is it love? Anything's possible...if there's such a thing as werewolves.

Now, just like Tim, Melody has vowed not to repeat her past mistakes and to become the most attentive, affectionate romantic partner possible! When the two meet, will it be a love affair...or a love competition?
