"Encompasses betrayal, pain, suffering, and death, but through it all, love and humor shine."
Kye is out to find and destroy the one who cursed him to
this half-life. This is the night he's waited for, for a
very long time. He sits waiting for his quarry to make his
entrance in this gothic hell humans call a dance club.
While scoping out the people, a woman mistakes Kye for the
vampire she is hunting. Balthazar sees humans as cattle, people to be used as he
wishes. He's a monster who on more than one occasion acts
like a little boy. When he can't get what he wants he
decides to destroy all so no one else can have it. This is
what he did to Kye and his family, while Kye was forced to
watch. Tali hasn't escaped Balthazar's wrath. He killed her
family, and then proceeded to put her in his militarily run
orphanage. Tali gets help though from Mari. Mari, also a
victim of Balthazar and now a vampire, raised Tali. Both
Tali and Mari have tweaked the tiger's tail long enough.
Balthazar has now sent out his minions to scour the city,
to find the ones who have taken from him. Kye and Tali join forces to kill a vampire and in the
interim fall in lust. THE SLAYER is Tali and Kye's story.
It encompasses betrayal, pain, suffering, and death, but
throughout it all, love and humor shine through. This is
not a story about goodness prevailing. You only find that
in a children's book. THE SLAYER shows that we all start
out as human with human failings, and that even a man who's
lost his humanity can be redeemed. The only problem with THE SLAYER was the editing. The flow
of the story stops when you have to wonder what word was
actually meant or was there a letter missing. Can one also
wish that THE SLAYER were a longer story? At 217 pages, it
fulfilled all the requirements a story needs. Maybe it's
the voyeur in me, but I wanted to know what happens next
with Kye and Tali. THE SLAYER is now also in paperback and I am going to add
this wonderful story to my library. Ms Burke has another
hit on her hands. Stephanie, write faster -- I want to read
