Male Slave Doctor Annie Wilkes is intrigued by the latest slave brought to the hub where she works. Unusually large, he has resisted every effort to be mounted. He's about to be castrated when Annie steps in. Seeing a bullet wound on his neck, she insists that he be brought to her clinic for immediate treatment. As part of the deal, she agrees to try to tame the slave she calls "Green Eyes".

Astronaut Joe Hero has traveled to this planet misnamed "Paradise" with his two brothers on a mission from NASA. When his brothers fail to return to their spacecraft, he goes out looking for them. Taking a breather and a swim, he is shot and captured by a group of savage women. When he awakens, they attempt to force him to have sex. Turns out men are slaves on this planet, and failure to submit will lead to castration (ouch!).

Annie and Joe each desire the other, but mistrust is prevalent. After the slave uprising of a year ago, can Annie bring herself to trust Joe to not harm her if she unbinds him? And she wonders -- how did a male slave learn to talk? He will be killed if it becomes known, since it's forbidden to teach males. Can Joe trust Annie to not turn him over to the slave farms? What will be the price to Annie for a single day with Joe?

Ms. Agony and Ms. Springer have written an exciting futuristic novel. Although I found the slavery aspects distasteful, I came to care for the characters. I'm interested in learning the answers to some questions. Where did the people on this planet come from? Why did women turn the men into slaves? What happened to Joe's younger brothers? Readers of A HERO'S WELCOME will be anxiously awaiting the sequels involving Joe's brothers.
