Rana Sterling is still grieving over the death of her grandfather, Jack. They had a close relationship; he was her anchor. She starts having sexual dreams about a man she briefly saw at the cemetery. To take her mind off her grief she takes the 'vette Jack left her and cruises the back roads. She finds a small antique shop and is drawn to old jewelry, there she sees a beautiful ring. It compels her with both its scent and attractiveness. When she slides the ring on, it seems to just belong on her finger. She is the only one who can smell the lavender that emits from the ring.

Lucian Trevane is a vampire. He is on the verge of becoming the leader of his people. He has avoid taking the leadership as he has no mate. He has searched for his love for centuries. Seventy years ago he found her again, only to lose her before making her a vampire. Then Sabryn, his sister, tells him that a young woman bought his ring and smelled the scent. If she is really his soul mate, the ring will absorb her scent. Then he will be able to track her down. Now he has something to fight for. He had to find Rana and protect her until they become truly mated. When it becomes known that Lucian will take over as leader, a rogue vampire Kraid challenges him and intends on taking Rana life before she becomes his mate.

When Rana finds out Lucian is a vampire, she runs from him. Accidentally bolting into traffic she gets struck by a car. Upon dying she goes to the gatekeeper, who tells her she has to go back and help Lucian claim the rightful leadership of his people. Then when he becomes the leader, she will really die and leave Lucian forever. One of the conditions of helping Lucian is she must not let him turn her into a vampire before he assumes leadership.

Will she be able to resist temptation? How will Lucien deal with it happening again?

A TASTE FOR PASSION is a wonderful, hot, sexy read. For a second novel, Ms. Michelle really shows her writing skills. Lucian is an alpha male who is great vampire. Rana's softness and sensitivity make her the perfect match for Lucian. The tension is great throughout the story; it will keep you on the edge of your seat. I would love to see a story about the secondary characters. A great read, you won't be disappointed.
