REVIEW

"The right man can make you lose your inhibitions"

Nathan is a vampire who lives a life of loneliness and despair. He can't feel any real emotions, can't form bonds with anyone else, and moves from place to place, town to town, working in blood labs where he finds his nourishment. He isn't a bad man, just one who experienced some bad luck a couple hundred years ago. His days are what most people would consider to be a living hell. Imagine living in a world where you don't stay in the same place for more than a few years, if even that long. You can't make friends because there are too many secrets you can't explain. You can't fall in love, get married, and have children because you drink blood and have to sleep during the day, and most girls just aren't comfortable with that. But you can sense everything going on around you, even if you can't be part of it. When the couple upstairs engages in rather boisterous sex, Nathan hears it. He also hears their fighting. And when he comes upon Amy, the young woman with the demanding boyfriend who left her because of her prudishness, Nathan decides to help her lose her inhibitions. What's a guy to do? He is just trying to be neighborly . . .

Anyone interested in reading a romantic love story should not pick up DARK DESIRES. It is neither romantic nor a love story. However, it is a dark, emotional tale of a young man whose innocence was taken from him a long time ago, of a man who still has honor when no one expects it of him. It is an erotic journey for a timid, self-conscious woman into the realm of sensual love, and who finds an amazing teacher in her spooky neighbor. It is also a lesson to be learned by all of us: some decisions are too big to be taken lightly, and some mistakes can never be rectified. While it is hard to like Nathan, it isn't hard to admire or empathize with him.

Summary

When Nathan meets Amy, she's in tears. Her boyfriend has left to consider their relationship; he's frustrated that she's not more interested in sex. Nathan knows he should leave the young woman alone--relationships with a four- hundred-year-old vampire can be hazardous for mortal females. But he can't fight the attraction any more than he can understand it. He offers to become her sexual tutor and show her how to please her boyfriend. Unable to battle his power of persuasion, Amy agrees.

While Nathan is seducing Amy in ways she's never imagined, and showing her things no mortal lover could, she's falling in love with him. When she learns his secret, she's ready to join him in eternity.
