"Tall, Dark and In Charge"
Mikhail Dubrinsky is the Prince of his kind, but he is a
Prince who is tired of his rule. Like all Carpathian males,
he long ago lost the ability to feel emotions or see
any color besides gray. It is only when he finally makes
the decision to face the dawn that he hears her voice. Raven Whitney, psychic, cannot let the lonely man she
overhears kill himself, even if it means exposing her
paranormal powers to him. But she's on vacation in the
Carpathian Mountains after winding up a tough and mentally
exhausting experience aiding the police, and doesn't need
any more trouble. All she wants to do is relax. The sight of her brings color and feeling to his life. He
is the strong protector she's always needed but never
found. Their lifemating fulfills them both -- but it also
brings Raven into a foreign culture where the hunters are
the hunted and the predators are the prey. When his people
fall under attack, the Prince must do what he can to save
them -- and as his lifemate, Raven must come to his aid! DARK PRINCE, Feehan's first Carpathian story, is a
straightforward introduction to the author's race of quasi-
vampires. Clearly an early adventure in the world, DARK
PRINCE is heavy on the action and hot on the sensuality.
Mikhail is the hero that all women dream to meet -- dark,
dangerous, secretive and mysterious. Raven, though spunky,
seems somewhat faded next to the Carpathian Prince's
overwhelming presence. Though it seems mechanical at times -
- and this reviewer hopes that the typeface has gotten
bigger is subsequent reprints! -- the novel is one that any
vampire fan should at least try, and a definite must for
vampire romance collectors. The worldbuilding that Feehan
engages in, and the Carpathian culture and heroes that she
creates, are well worth the read! DARK PRINCE is an
exciting introduction to a new world, and one that leaves
the reader looking forward to new adventures.
