REVIEW

"Pirate or privateer, Sabine doesn't want him around."

Pirate Galan Donovan, a friend and business associate of Sabine's brother, has quite a reputation, one that she finds abhorrent. Yet when he shows up on their doorstep with a wound that will be the death of him without her help, she finds she cannot turn him away. As vampires, the only way she can save him is to give him her blood. Though she has bitten many, she has never herself been bitten. Unfortunately, or so Sabine feels, when two vampires share blood and sex, they also share a mental bond and become mated for life. She tries her best to reject this mating, but Galan knows that they are meant for each other.

When death and distruction follow Galan to Sabine's home, he must convince her to come with him. Galan is much more than he seems--and so is Sabine, but Sabine doesn't realize this. Sabine has a lot of surprises in store for her, not the least of those concerning the truth of who Galan is. As for the King who has visited the distruction upon Sabine's home, there is much unknown about him, also...

Though Galan is a very alpha hero, he is also a sensitive and kind one. He respects Sabine and her feelings. However, it bothered me that he believed they were mated for life, yet refused to share the truth of himself with her. To be honest, pirate tales are not really my thing. However I do like vampires and if you are a fan of both of these, this story will not be a disappointment. It certainly didn't disappoint me. There are ocean voyages and sword fights, traiters and heroes, secrets and shapeshifers--and, of course, sex. The action starts on the first page and doesn't let up. I thought what happened to the villian to be very justifiable.

Though it is not necessary to first read the story of Sabine's brother (in the MIDNIGHT DESIRES anthology) to enjoy this book, I recommend it.

Sensuality--NC17. Descriptive sex; blunt and some crude language; oral sex; bondage; monogamous sex. Sexually explicit scenes: 13.
