REVIEW

"rings true when describing the pitfalls of new love"

Juan Allistair, an Argentine high-goal polo player on the Florida circuit, was in a sort of self-imposed limbo. His fiancée was in Argentina, his mother and eldest brother had passed away, his father had returned to his native England, and the glamour and cache he had expected as a polo pro just hadn't seem to materialize. More than a little disheartened and missing his family, on a whim he stops in at a small church while on his way to the tack shop. While there, he encounters Rennie Piccabea crying at the feet of a statue of St. John.

Juan is there to light candles in memory of his mother and brother, and to soothe his soul. Rennie, who had stopped in on her way from the market, is there to cry out her frustration and pray for guidance. Not much seems to go right in her life; she is one of those who has an interest in a bit of everything, but hasn't yet mastered one thing. The one thing she does know is that she has to get it together, devote her time and attention to school and begin to build a life without the influence of her mother. She is so overwrought that when she leaves the church, she forgets to take her groceries with her. Juan, captivated by Rennie, follows her to give them back to her. Thus begins a very tightly written love story that I found difficult to put down.

It goes without saying that Juan and Rennie initiate a relationship based on mutual attraction, but woven into the tale are threads that address personal responsibility, honor, maturity, forgiveness, personal growth....and oh yeah...steamy, wet, wicked hot sex!

This e-book appealed to me on many levels. As a former amateur polo player, I found the references and match descriptions to be accurate, which really put me right into the action and brought back a lot of fond memories as well. I also think the scenes are well written enough to do the same for someone who has never experienced the sport. The growing relationship between Juan and Rennie rings true when describing the pitfalls of new love juggled with new life roles and responsibilities, and I found myself really pulling for them to find their way.

With all of the above being said, Ms. Winston also delivers a steamy, sexy read that will stay with you long after you've finished reading it. I'll certainly never be able to look at an orange grove again without grinning.
