"Sensuous ancient Sumer is setting for enjoyable romp."
The notorious Dr. Kyle Pendrake is a famous and dedicated
scientist, but he's also one hot babe-magnet. When Annie
Lynden gets assigned by her editor to cover the
unveiling of his new invention, Merlin (Magical Energies
Resonator and Linear Integration Network), she is thrilled
at the opportunity to cover what promises to be the hot
technological topic of the year and even more thrilled to
discover that the scientist behind it all is even hotter.
With Merlin in operation, Kyle is able to open a portal to
the past and offer those present in the room a glimpse of
New York in the 1890s. Kyle explains to his audience that Merlin feeds on
the "magic" energy found in all things, but he doesn't
realize that Merlin responds to emotional energy as well.
When the audience erupts into enthusiastic applause at his
achievement, Merlin goes wild, there's a brilliant fireball
of light, and Kyle disappears. Fast-forward five years, and Annie has become a successful
writer. Meanwhile, the scientists who've taken over after
Kyle's disappearance have managed to control the operation
of Merlin by giving those using the machine a light
tranquilizer to dull their emotions. Annie arranges a
session with Merlin, intending to view the past for a book
she is researching. Unknown to her, a scientist and his assistant chose the
time just before her appointment to sneak into the lab and
make passionate love. When Annie turns Merlin on ahead of
schedule, the machine once again goes wild and she is
transported back to ancient Sumer. She wakes up in the
Temple of the Moon Goddess, surrounded by half-naked women.
She learns that she'd materialized in the Circle of the
Moon and is considered a messenger from the Goddess due to
her white blonde hair and violet eyes. Annie soon learns that she is not the only one from her
time in ancient Sumer — Dr. Kyle Pendrake was transported
there when he disappeared five years ago and is now the
High Priest of the Sun God. And as a new servant of the
Moon Goddess, Annie must undergo an erotic initiation
ceremony and then serve as the sex slave of the High Priest
for thirty days. THE SUN GOD'S WOMAN is an immensely enjoyable romp into a
sensuous past that never really existed. Ancient Sumer is
an idyllic place filled with beautiful people eager to hop
into bed. Annie and Kyle are both charming, likeable
characters who want only to use their modern knowledge to
help the people of Sumer solve their problems. At the same
time, the unashamed sexuality of the priestesses and
priests of Sumer teaches Annie how to accept her own
growing desires. THE SUN GOD'S WOMAN is a lighthearted
book and a pleasant visit to a peaceful society where
making love seems to be the main activity. Speaking of making love, Annie and Kyle manage to show the
ancients a few things about oral sex. The book also
includes masturbation, light bondage, and anal penetration. Sumer is so peaceful and idyllic that the book lacks any
major conflict. I kept waiting for a problem to develop
but none did. Although a couple of possibilities are hinted
at, Annie and Kyle easily solve any difficulty that comes
their way with their 21st century knowledge. Those who
prefer some tension or suspense in their fiction may find
this frustrating, but THE SUN GOD'S WOMAN is basically a
fast, fun and sexy read. Rating: NC17. Reviewed by Jeanine Berry for Sensual Romance.
