Rand Faràr is a man with a problem. As a smuggler, he's been in some pretty tight spots before, but nothing this bad. When he got caught with a "cargo", he jettisoned it to save himself time in prison. Rand then tried to work out a deal to pay for the "cargo". The owner refused and put a contract out on him. Unfortunately for Rand, the bounty hunter hired for the job is one of the best. So what does our hero do? He contacts an assassin, and not just any assassin, but a vampire.

Drake Varna has been around forever. One really can't say alive since he is one of the "undead". He arranged to meet Rand Farrar in a bar. When Rand offers Drake all the money he has, Drake turns him down. When Rand offers him his rare type AB blood, Drake accepts the offer of blood and body to keep his newest client alive.

Will Drake be able to keep Rand safe from the bounty hunter? What of Rand? Will he enjoy being a "donor" for Drake?

Madeleine Oh's CONTRACT IN BLOOD is a very intense science fiction story. The action is fast-paced and constantly moving. For a short story, this one definitely packs a punch. We have a little bit of everything: vampires, smugglers, spaceships and bounty hunters and they come together in a highly unique way!
