Set in 18th century England and told in first person, the
story opens with the marriage of 12-year-old Lady Constance
to 14-year-old Duncan Blakley. Immediately after the vows
had been said, the two are pulled off to the bedchamber to
consummate the marriage before witnesses; however, they
