"Not your usual cop story"
As the only black female detective in the department, Jamie
Hanna has always had to prove herself. Sometimes it seemed
that she would never be accepted. Even her partner treated
her with disrespect. One day while on a stakeout she was
wounded and her partner was killed in an ambush. While
recovering the hospital she finds herself being accused of
being a dirty cop. Dan Janson is the editor of the paper that has done a
hatchet job on Jamie. The story they printed had everyone
thinking that Jamie was not only dirty but that she was
responsible for her partner's death. Needless to say Jamie
is not pleased to see Dan. After a confrontation, Dan
starts to question the motives behind his reporter's story
on Jamie. Were the facts true and was Jamie dirty or did
the reporter twist the facts to tell the story the way he
wanted it to go? Together they decide to go after the bad guys who framed
Jamie. Even though their lives are in danger they can't
seem to deny their attraction to each other. This wasn't your usual cop story. Jamie wasn't quite as
hardened as some female cops are portrayed. She came
across as a real person with faults. The interaction
between Jamie and Dan was interesting to read and the fact
that Jamie was black didn't overshadow the story. It was
just taken as a fact that she was who she was. This
really isn't a complaint but the tone of this story was a
bit rougher than some of the romantica I've read recently. Sexual content: NC-17.
