"Tall, Dark and Determined"
Aidan Savage is a Hunter far from his homeland in the dark
Carpathian Mountains. He lives in San Francisco, protecting
the human inhabitants of his territory from the ravages of
'turned' Carpathian males -- true Vampires. Separated from
kith and kin, he lives with two loyal servants, children of
those who have lived and died in his service. He first sees
Alexandria Houton and her younger brother Joshua when he
saves them from a wild, destructive Vampire. He mistakes
the filthy, bloody Alexandria for a turned madwoman; it
is only when colors brighten his world that he realizes the
truth -- that Alexandria is his lifemate! Powerful foes hunt Aidan, however, and Alexandria's
disastrous debut into the life of the Carpathians earns him
no favor. She trusts him only for the sake of her orphaned
younger brother, and lives with him only because of the
unbreakable hold that he has on her. She will not fall into
his arms, however much he would wish it -- instead,
Alexandra is going to make Aidan fight to prove his love,
and earn hers in return! The first of the "Dark" books set in a different locale,
DARK GOLD is a fresh story that diverges from the previous
books in the series. For the first time we have a heroine
who isn't really interested in the hero at first -- a woman
who wants to pursue her own life. Aidan's struggle to
accept her very human need for independence makes for a
powerful read. While vampire hunters are still a part of
the plotline, there's a lot more focus on the romantic
relationship between Aidan and Alexandria, which is
refreshing. The outside conflict comes from the dark
vampires which hunt psychic females, again a device used in
previous "Dark" volumes, but still a nice change from the
vampire hunters. This tale features a child, too, and seems
more contemporary that the other tales. DARK GOLD is
another fine installment in Feehan's "Dark" series, and one
that will please any lover of vampire romance.
