"Historical fiction with fiesty characters. A true delight!"
In THE CAPTAIN'S WOMAN, author Merline Lovelace sets her
story during the fascinating period of the Spanish/American
War. Her heroine, Victoria Parker, is a feisty newspaperwoman
from Cheyenne, Wyoming. She has been content to pursue the
idle social chatter of the growing western town, that is
until her fiance, Captain Sam Garrett is shipped out to
join Teddy Roosevelt's famous Rough Riders in Cuba.
Victoria follows Sam into the thick of battle, and reports
the war in ways that only a woman could relate back to the
States. At first, Sam is furious that Victoria has come to the
dangerous battlefields of Cuba, but when she earns his
admiration aiding the wounded, his love for this
independent young woman grows. Will their wartime romance
survive the raging battles, on the field and off? Merline Lovelace delivers an action-packed, lusty romance
with a great deal of history added in for great measure.
The addition of real-life characters such as Clara Barton,
Teddy Roosevelt, and Joseph Pulitzer add depth to the
realism of the story. THE CAPTAIN'S WOMAN is a very
satisfying story.
