Summary

Madeline Welby has known Padraic MacKinnon her whole life. When she was a girl of twelve, Padraic, the caretaker of her family's estate in the Lowlands of Scotland, was the first man Maddie ever loved. She was too young then, but now she is twenty-one and finds she is still in love with the ruggedly handsome Scotsman who has been her best friend. Padraic, too, is in love with Maddie and desires her for himself. When Maddie stumbles across Padraic's doorstep during a rainstorm desperately in need of his comfort, she learns how it feels to be loved by an older, more experienced man!
